What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese concept translated as “Universal Life Energy.” Reiki is the essence that flows through all life, in all forms, at all times. Reiki conscious energy is transmitted through the attuned Reiki practitioner like myself to use for healing the self and others. I received my first and second attunement from Reiki Master Susana Wolds in San Diego, CA in 2015 through the Usui Shiki Ryoho & Ichi Sekai System of Natural Healing. Usui Shiki Ryoho System of Natural Healing is a specific form of practice passed down through this lineage that allows the healer to have contact with the energy of Reiki by laying on of hands in treatment of others.
Like in acupuncture, certain areas, or chakras, on the body are targeted through hand placements. When one’s energy is depleted, imbalanced, or the flow is restricted by stress, injury, illness, etc., one is more susceptible to discomfort, further illness, and disease (as with restrictions of the circulatory and nervous systems). When one’s energy is restored, free-flowing, or balanced, one is more likely to feel relaxed and the body’s own innate healing abilities are “jump-started” and utilized for healing.
Though this Universal Life Force Energy cannot be seen, it is real, just as radio waves, electricity and microwaves are real but cannot be seen. Since everything--including our bodies--are made of energy, Reiki provides an opportunity to balance our chi (energy life-force) to aid in healing. Research found that the brain wave patterns of practitioner and receiver become synchronized with each other, characteristic of deep relaxation and meditation, but also pulsed in unison with the earth's magnetic field, known as the Schuman Resonance. During these moments, the biomagnetic field of the practicioner's hands is at least 1000 times greater than normal. All of this supports the subjective experience of 'oneness' and 'expanded conscouisness' related by those who regularly receive Reiki.
Reiki is completely safe for anyone, and there is no "negative energy" to be concerned with--Reiki cannot harm. As long as you are open to receiving it, Reiki can only help the mind, body and spirit.
Healing vs. Curing
Reiki aims at healing the body, mind and spirit, not necessarily 'curing' illness as in other forms of traditional medicine. Curing means "eliminating all evidence of disease," while healing means "becoming whole." In other words, curing is the attempt to rid disease through external sources, while healing is an internally derived process one can do for themselves, and brings about balance to mind, body and spirit--an integrative process that transcends the physical and includes mental, emotional, and spiritual vitality and wellness. Reiki simply funnels this Universal Life Force Energy to you, allowing you to activate your body's own natural healing abilities. Often, typical 'cures' don't necessarily bring about actual healing; thus, Reiki can do wonders for a person holistically, especially in tandem with nutritional and lifestyle therapies.
What to Expect During your Session
Prior to the session, you can share any physical, emotional or spiritual concerns (as well as any allergies to essential oils) as you receive an aromatherapy foot bath and sage smudging. Prior to the session beginning, I'll ask you to remove any jewelry and your shoes, but you'll remain fully clothed. You'll then be asked to lie on the massage table and, in order to further facilitate relaxation, I will play peaceful music and diffuse essential oils. During the session, no massage-like movements will be used. Instead, I lay or hover my hands in different positions that treat all body systems and chakras. You may feel warmth, tingling or just deep relaxation. Your feelings may range from extreme relaxation to extreme clarity or a heightened emotional state.
All you need to do is be relaxed and open to receiving all of the healing energy to the best of your ability.
What to Expect After Your Session
Research has shown a significant decrease in anxiety and pain, accelerated wound healing and a greater sense of general wellbeing. Sometimes, Reiki may bring up or release emotions. It also can result in detoxification of the body that may result in some mild discomfort for a short time after treatment, so be sure to rest and drink plenty of water after each session.
Reiki Healing Session Options
I offer 30-, 60-, and 90-minute Reiki Healing Sessions. The suggested cost for Reiki is $20 per 30 minutes, but I will never deny anyone needing Reiki Healing based on money. Therefore, I simply ask that people pay what they can for the Reiki services they need.
If you have questions about Reiki or what length session or package is right for you, feel free to schedule a free, no strings attached consultation!
